Temporary skatepark set up in Horndean
Monday 26th of July 2010
Following a raft of requests by local residents a temporary skate park is to be set up in Horndean.
The park, which will be free to use, is a clever and flexible design which can be built to specification and sited for short periods before being disassembled after use.
It will be constructed on Five Heads Recreation Ground from Monday 9 August until Monday 23 August.
And while the equipment is in the village young skaters will have plenty of time to practise for a skateboard competition, due to be held by Horndean Parish Council on Saturday 21 August.
The contest, which runs from 11am, will have a £2 entry and will feature prizes for various age groups.
Cllr Deborah Taylor said: "We know there is a large demand for a skate park in Horndean but we cannot provide a permanent park at this time, however, this ingenious new system allows us to set up a temporary skatepark when and where we want.
"We hope local skaters take the chance to have a go on the park while it is at Five Heads Recreation Ground and then sign on for our competition on 21 August."
Depending on the response to the temporary skate park Horndean Parish Council may look for a permanent site for funds can be secured.
