Risk of flooding as the snow melts

Friday 15th of January 2010

Comments Have your say

Now the snow has stopped falling and the thaw has started there is the potential for some localised flooding within the district.

While East Hampshire District Council does have a small stock of sandbags for emergency use, it is the residents' responsibility to ensure the safety of their own property.

EHDC will assist where possible by issuing sandbags to prevent water from entering occupied residential property where the threat of flooding is imminent. Priority will be given to the elderly or infirm.

Sandbags will not be provided for protecting gardens, outbuildings or other structures.

Where sandbags are provided they become the responsibility of the person receiving them. This includes their subsequent removal and disposal.

For more information and advice on flooding please see the EHDC website where there are links to guidance from the Environment Agency.
