New website is hailed the local Facebook
Thursday 18th of June 2009

This website, which has been dubbed ‘the local Facebook', has now been officially launched and aims to connect the whole of the East Hampshire community.
www.easthampshire.org is a one-stop-shop for everything that goes on in the region.
The website is run by East Hampshire District Council but its content is powered by the people of the region.
Users can set up free pages dedicated to their favourite hobby or local club, they can recruit members to their online group and even publicise their forthcoming events.
They can link to their own external websites, add events or news, or just use the site to chat and stay in touch.
Those that register on the site, which is free, can take advantage of a raft of extra features such as money-off vouchers for local attractions.
As well as this, users can arrange the content of the website in whatever order they want as the homepage is fully customisable.
The website has detailed events listings as well as daily news updates.
It also has photographs from around the district and short video clips on topical items - like this one.

One user, Michael Blakstad, from East Meon , said: "The website is easy to use and packed full of interesting features.
"I particularly enjoy the daily news updates and the events.
"The website meshes really well with local websites which serve each village, providing a wider platform for events and news.
"It is a bit like a local version of Facebook as you can set up your own free group page to publicise your club or society and other users can join your online group.
"The site is well on its way to becoming a one-stop-shop for all things related to East Hampshire."
Cllr Ferris Cowper, EHDC's Leader, said: "The website has already had a fantastic response and I'm sure it will go from strength to strength.
"We are hoping that www.easthampshire.org will connect community groups and residents and become a one-stop-shop for everything related to the district.
"It is a fantastic way to publicise your club or group and to recruit new members.
"If you're not already registered then I urge you to logon and check out what's on offer."
Cllr David Parkinson, EHDC's Deputy Leader, said: "This is a great website and is very easy to use.
"It is updated every day so it looks fresh and exciting.
"There are hundreds of events listed as well as interesting news stories and photographs.
"The site is a real asset to the community."
