Group gets to grips with garden life

More than 90 members of Petersfield's University of the Third Age got to grips with garden life and learnt how to identify birds at their latest meeting.

The group braved the wind and the rain to be at their monthly meeting - where they were given a talk by wildlife enthusiast Geoff Lunn.

Geoff came armed with photographs he had taken of birds at his home in Surrey - including crossbills, siskins and bullfinches.

He also shared some amusing anecdotes about how he had to catch a rebel mouse which stole his money.

Kind-hearted Geoff also hand-reared a very young, green woodpecker which had fallen out of its nest.

The University of the Third Age is a group which aims to stimulate the town's retired population - people in the 'third-age' of life.

Based loosely on the concept of a typical university, the group invites people with specialist knowledge to talk about 40 different subjects in total.
