East Hampshire District Council collects 99 per cent of council tax
Tuesday 30th of June 2009
East Hampshire District Council collected 99.1 per cent of council tax payments in 2008/9.
The figure is the highest of any council in Hampshire and among the best in the country.
Cllr Ken Moon, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Asset Management, said: "The more people that fail to pay council tax the heavier the burden that falls on honest residents.
"The collected revenue is put towards important local services that we all use and because virtually everyone in East Hampshire pays their council tax we all end up paying less."

Bill Price, Business Director, added: "The high collection rates mean we at EHDC spend less time and money chasing bad debts and that leads to a much more efficient and financially steady council.
"EHDC's score of 99.1 per cent equals the collection rate achieved in 2007/08, which in the context of the current economic downturn, is very impressive."
This is the third consecutive year EHDC has come top of the table for the collection of Council Tax in Hampshire.
The next best council was New Forest District Council which achieved a total of 98.7 per cent.
