Conservatives win in East Hampshire

East Hampshire remained in Conservative hands after 6 May's General Election, which saw a high turnout.
Damian Hinds won the seat with a majority of over 13,400, taking over from long-standing former MP Michael Mates.
The turn out was 71 per cent, 5% up on 2005's 66.6 per cent. Boundary changes saw areas around Whitehill and Bordon included in the constituency while Horndean and the surrounds was moved to the new Meon Valley seat.
The count was held in Petersfield Festival Hall with the result announced at about 3am.
The full result was as follows:
- Adam Carew, Liberal Democrat - 15,640
- Jane Edbrooke, The Labour PartyCandidate - 4,043
- Damian Hinds, The Conservative Party Candidate - 29,137
- Don Jerrard, The Justice& Anti-Corruption Party - 310
- Hugh McGuinness, UK Independence Party - 1,477
- Matt Williams, English Democrats - "Putting England First!" - 710
The new Meon Valley constituency, including areas of Horndean, Rowlands Castle and Clanfield, was won by Conservative George Hollingbery with a majority of 12,125. The turnout was 72.7%.

- Sarah Coats, The Animal Protection Party - 255
- Pat Harris, English Democrats - "Putting England First!" - 582
- Stephen Harris, UK Independence Party - 1,490
- George Hollingbery, The Conservative Party Candidate - 28,818
- Liz Leffman, Liberal Democrat - 16,693
- Howard Linsley, The Labour Party Candidate - 3,266
- Graeme Quar, Independent - 134
Results in the region include:
- Winchester - Steve Brine, Conservative,
- Chichester - Andrew Tyrie, Conservative
- Surrey South West - Jeremy Hunt, Conservative
- Hampshire North East - James Arbuthnot, Conservative

Counting takes place at Petersfield Festival Hall
