Sponsor a tree for the Diamond Jubilee
Monday 6th February 2012
Residents will be able to sponsor 60 trees to be planted in various locations around Horndean to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The proposal, made by Horndean Parish Councillor Robert Sowden, Chairman of the Open Spaces Committee, received overwhelming support at a meeting of the Council on 23 January 2012.
“This would be a reminder of the celebrations for years to come and be of great benefit to the environment,” said Councillor Sowden.
The Council also believe that it could be an opportunity for residents to sponsor individual trees in the name of their children or in memory of a loved one.
“This level of personal involvement and ownership could greatly reduce the potential for vandalism,” said Councillor Lynn Evans, Chairman of the Council.
The individual locations are yet to be decided and will be based upon the advice of the Parish Council’s professional Countryside Team, it is hoped that details will soon be available of the locations and the types of tree suitable for those environments.
