HOT-BLOODED and moving, Robert Icke directs this new production of the world’s greatest love story as Headlong’s Romeo & Juliet comes to Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, February 21 to 25.
In the blistering heat and bloody violence of Verona’s streets, two lovers risk everything to be together. Passionate and dangerous, impetuous and heart-breaking; Shakespeare’s great tragedy of family feuds and forbidden love is given a fresh spin in this modern and theatrically inventive production. Young love. Accidents will happen…
Daniel Boyd plays Romeo. Daniel will be seen in Rupert Goold’s upcoming film version of Richard II due for release this year. Joining Daniel as Juliet is Catrin Stewart. Catrin’s stage credits include Buried Child at the Leicester Curve and The Lady from the Sea at The Royal Exchange. Television credits include Stella, Doctor Who and Misfits.
Joining Daniel and Catrin are; Keith Bartlett (Capulet), Simon Coates (Friar Laurence), Caroline Faber (Lady Capulet), Stephen Fewell (Montague/Apothecary), Daniel Hill (Peter), Danny Kirrane (Benvolio), Tunji Lucas (Paris), Okezie Morro (Tybalt), Tom Mothersdale (Mercutio), Matthew Spencer (Prince) and Brigid Zengeni (Nurse).
Robert Icke is Associate Director at Headlong. He most recently worked alongside Headlong’s Artistic Director Rupert Goold in conceiving and developing Decade at St Katharine Docks. Icke founded the Arden Theatre company in 2003 and over five years as Artistic Director directed nine productions for the company: Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, An Inspector Calls, Hughie, The Zoo Story, Richard III, and Journey’s End.
Headlong Theatre’s recent touring work includes Earthquakes in London, ENRON and Six Characters in Search of an Author.
Two households. Five days. A whirlwind romance… Join us as one of Shakespeare’s most enduring and popular plays takes to the Stage.
