Inclusive Climbing reaches new heights!

Monday 6th February 2012

Young people reached new heights at the start of 2012 with two inclusive climbing sessions in Alton.

The health and fitness programme Get Activ8d, run for young people by East Hampshire District Council, laid on the opportunity for 42 young people.

Funded by Inspiring You, the scheme encouraged young people with disabilities and additional needs to have a go at different sports.

The youngsters came from all around the area to have a go at the High Sports Wall under the expert guidance of climbing centre manager Rachel Perry and her team of instructors, who have all received training to support people with disabilities to take part in climbing.

Lisa Clements, of EHDC’s Get Activ8d, said: “It was a first for both Get Activ8d and High Sports and it was a great success – two days full of smiles at the great individual achievements.

“Based on the success of these sessions Get Activ8d and High Sports are going to look into future opportunities to work together with more sessions like these and hopefully we will bring out even more smiles and get more young people up the wall!”
