Alton Victorian Cricket Tournament names its sponsor

Thursday 16th February 2012

The Alton Victorian Cricket Tournament will this year be supporting Treloar’s as their chosen charity.

Treloar’s was established in Alton in 1908 when Sir William Purdie Treloar opened a school and hospital for children with tuberculosis and other disabling conditions.

Since then Treloar’s has grown, and it continues to provide a good education, specialist therapies equipment, and independence training for young people some with very complex disabilities and learning difficulties aged from nine to 19.

As a charity Treloar’s needs to raise around  £2 million every year to continue its life-changing work helping disabled children and teenagers to reach their full potential.

Head of Community & Events at Treloar’s Jon Colville said: “It is a thrill to have been chosen as the charity for this unique event this year.

“We are looking forward very much to working with the cricket committee and hope to make the event a really great day out again this year with activities not just for the cricketers but all the family.”

Chris Webborn, Head of publicity for the AVC said: “It is always so difficult to chose a charity to support from all the very many worthy causes that apply to us each year, but we are so pleased to be able to support Treloar’s as they do such wonderful work for the children in their care.”

The cricket is a limited overs tournament between nine teams who all play in Victorian dress. There will be a variety of side shows and stalls, rides and entertainment.

Alton Town Council have supported the event again this year as well as the sponsors Molson-Coors, Warren Powell Richards, This is Alton magazine and Domino’s Pizza.

The tournament is taking place on The Butts on Sunday June 24 and starts at 10am.
