Every Tuesday is Conservation in Action day, each week we will cover topics such as how to clean and care for the books, cleaning and safe storage of ceramics, how to clean and care for your furniture, and a closer look at some things that have never been open before.
Best known for its magnificent garden and stunning views to the south, Hinton Ampner is an elegant country house remodelled in 1960 by Ralph Dutton, the 8th and last Lord Sherborne, after a devastating fire.
It contains his fascinating collection of Georgian and Regency furniture, Italian pictures and objets d’art.
The gardens were also laid out by Ralph Dutton and are widely acknowledged as a masterpiece of 20th-century design, mixing formal and informal planting and providing year-round interest.

Sitting alongside a selection of photographs contemporary with the Lark Rise story (c1880-1910), these images depict and explore the changing English rural experience observed in these remarkable books
