Shakespeare’s tale of terror and deceit will open Guildford Shakespeare Company’s 2012 programme in February.
An edge-of-your seat thriller, Richard III is the story of one man’s ruthless ambition to be King. The company will once again take up residence in the beautiful and epic Holy Trinity Church on Guildford High Street, where the company’s inimitable site-specific approach, will seek to place audiences right at the heart of the action.
Several of the cast from 2011’s critically acclaimed production of Hamlet will return for Richard III, as will director Caroline Devlin who is joined by designer Neil Irish, fresh from his work on The Merchant of Venice this summer. Following the company’s most successful year to date, anticipation around the production is already starting to build. Tickets will be on sale in December from the company’s new website.
To accompany Richard III, there will also be a series of special events, including a free pre-matinee talk from renowned Surrey-based historian and writer Alison Weir on Saturday 18th February. Further details of these events will be released soon.
