MP Damian Hinds visits voluntary group

MP Damian Hinds visited Community First East Hampshire on Friday 10 December to discuss the Big Society Agenda.
Damian Hinds is a strong supporter of Community First – an organisation that provides a range of support services to charities, community groups and local people including volunteering, training, good practice and practical advice.
Damian met with Mrs Terry Bishop, Chief Executive of Community First and discussed how valuable the organisation’s work will be in supporting local communities with the Big Society localism agenda. Mrs Bishop shared the organisation’s concerns about the impact funding cuts for the voluntary and community sector could have on the local community.
Damian Hinds also met with staff and volunteers and spent time in the Volunteer Centre accessing the national ‘Do-It’ website, which links local people to volunteering opportunities across the area. The centre is currently promoting 1,387 volunteering opportunities across 372 local voluntary and community organisations.
