Oakhanger is a small rural village north of Bordon. It has a Village Hall, a public house (the Red Lion) and a church (St Mary Magdalene). It is situated on the edge of Shortheath Common, an area designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a European Conservation Area. The village is surrounded by farmland and it has two small areas of light industry as well as Coomers – a large, family run, builders merchant. Springfields Garden Centre is situated on the outskirts of the village in the direction of Blackmoor.
There is no school in the village and children of primary school age go to one of five different schools outside the village, and then on to one of four secondary schools.
The 120-year-old Village Hall is very small but it is a much-loved building with a unique character. It is situated at the edge of the village green in the centre of the village, within walking distance of most of the residents. It has a homely welcoming atmosphere, is the centre of life in the village and is used extensively for a wide range of classes and social events.
Two large annual events held in the village are a May Fayre with its traditional May Queen and Maypole Dancing and a Village Show which now incorporates a Flower Show, a Dog Show and Family Sports.
