Farringdon

All Saints Church, FarringdonFarringdon is a small village about three miles south of Alton opn the A32 Alton to Fareham Road. The village is in two parts – Lower and Upper Farringdon.

The village’s All Saints Church is of 12th and 13th century origin, and Gilbert White (the famous naturalist who lived in Selborne) was curate here between 1761 and 1785.

Another interesting building is a large ornamental brick building known as Massey’s Folly, which featured on the BBC Restoration Village programme. It was built by the Reverend Thomas Massey, Vicar of Farringdon from 1875 -1919. The village hall occupies part of the folly and is used by a number of organisations from within and outside the village. The other half served as the Village Primary School until 1987 when it was sold off after the school closed.

The source of the River Wey is near Farringdon.
