Beech

St Peter's Church, BeechBeech is a rural village two miles from Alton. It is mostly woodland and farmland with just over 200 houses and 600 residents. It is placed in a valley with Alton Abbey at the top and the Alton to Basingstoke road at the bottom and flanked by Bushy Leaze Wood. Alton Abbey, Order of St. Benedict, is the home of the Community of Our Lady and St. John, an Anglican Religious Community following the Rule of St. Benedict.

The village was noted for many years for its ‘colonial’ style houses which were made of wood and corrugated iron, many of which were built between World War I and World War II. Many of those houses have now been replaced with more modern buildings.

The parish church was built in 1902 and the village hall in 1932.

One of Beech’s most famous residents is TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh.
