Register for an accountProfile options box

The registration form asks you for a username, email and password. You must also agree to the Terms and Conditions, by selecting the checkbox.

Once you have submitted the form, you will get an email sent to the email address you entered. The email contains an activation link which you need to click on to confirm your regsitration.

What are the benefits of registering with easthampshire.org ?

You can add a group, post on the forum, submit reviews, share status updates and photos with your friends and lots more.

Forgotten password
If you are trying to log in but have forgotten your password, you can click on the ‘forgotten password?’ link in the log in box which allows you to have a new password sent to your email address.

Editing your profile details, and subscribing/unsubscribing to newsletter

To find your profile, make sure you are logged in, then click the ‘My profile’ button on the top right of the screen.Editing your profile

At the bottom of the box on the top left, you will see links to ‘Edit Profile’,  ‘Change Avatar’ and ‘Email & Password’. (Your avatar is the picture you choose to represent you – whether it is a picture of you or just one you like is up to you).

To change your details:

1. Click ‘Edit profile’

2. Type whatever details you wish in the ‘About You’ box (this is a ‘biography’ type box, and is different from updating your status. The ‘About You’ information is seen only when someone looks at your full profile. Your status update is seen next to your avatar in the list of ‘Who’s on easthampshire.org’, and when someone looks at their list of friends).

3. Choose yes or no for receiving the weekly email by clicking in the button

4. Click in the box next to ‘I accept the terms and conditions’ if it is not already showing a tick

5. Click on the ‘Save Changes’ button

Change or delete your profile picture (avatar)

Crop avatar1. Click ‘Change your profile picture’

2. Click ‘Choose file’ to select a picture from your computer

3. When you have found one you like, click ‘Upload image’

4. You can crop your selected image by expanding and contracting the square by clicking and dragging one of the small squares at the corner of the selected area. All the grayed out area of the image will not be in your avatar. You can move the square around by moving the cursor over the image until you see a white cross with arrows on each point and then clicking and dragging.

5. Once you are happy with your selection click ‘Crop image’. You should get a ‘Avatar successfully uploaded’ message in red in the top box.

If you want to delete the current avatar but don’t have a picture to replace it, click on ‘Delete My Avatar’ and it will revert to the default image of the easthampshire.org logo.

Updating your status

Updating your statusYour status is a short summary of something you want to share with your friends, something you are thinking about or something that has happened to you. It is seen next to your avatar in the list of ‘Who’s on easthampshire.org’, and when someone looks at their list of friends.

It is different from the ‘About You’ section, which is designed to be more of a biography and people can only see when they view your full profile (see Edit Profile for more).

To update your status:

1. Go to ‘….(your username)’s activity in the ‘Options’ box on the top right hand side of your profile

2. Type your update in the ‘What’s new (yourusername)?’ box that appears at the top of the box at the bottom of the page

3. Once you are happy click ‘Post update’

Deleting your status

1. Go to ‘….(your username)’s activity in the ‘Options’ box on the top right hand side of your profile

2. Find your status in your activity stream

3. Click delete

4. You will get a confirmation message saying ‘Are you sure?’ Click OK

5. You should see a red confirmation message in the top box on your profile saying ‘Activity deleted’

Commenting on a statusCommenting on your status

You can comment on your own status, or comment on someone else’s status (or any other kind of activity on yours or someone else’s profile). To leave a comment:

1. Find the comment (or activity) you want to comment on

2. Start typing in the ‘Write a comment’ box underneath the status (or activity). The box will change to show a thumbnail of your avatar on the left, and show a ‘Save comment’ button.

3. Click on the ‘Save comment’ button. Your comment will show with a thumnail of your avatar on the left.

Other people can add comments below your comment.

Find who’s on easthampshire.org (add friends)

Directory Options boxYou can find people you know and add them as friends by looking in ‘Who’s on easthampshire.org’.

1. Log in then go to your profile by clicking the ‘My profile’ button in the top right hand corner.

2. Click on ‘Who’s on easthampshire.org’ in the top right hand box. You will see a list of the usernames of everyone registered on easthampshire.org.
You can arrange these alphabetically, see those who are currently online, arrange with most recently active top, or newest top. You can also use the ‘Search directory’ option to find your friends.
IMPORTANT: You can only search by username. This means you will only be able to find your friends if you know their username, or recognise their avatar.

3. Once you have found your friend in the list, click on ‘Add as friend’ next to their status and avatar. This will send them a friendship request which they will have to accept for you to be friends.

See and manage your list of friends

To see your list of friends:Profile options box
Go to your profile and click on ‘……(yourusername)’s friends’ in the top right hand ‘Options’ box.

To cancel friendship:
1.Go to your list of friends (see above).

2. Next to the status and avatar of your friend you will see an option to ‘Cancel friendship’. Click this. They will not be notified.

Friendship requests

If someone requests to  be your friend, you will get an email notifying you with a link to where you can accept their request.

To find a list of people who have requested friendship with you:

1.Go to your profile and click on ‘……(yourusername’s)’s friends’ in the top right hand ‘Options’ box.

2. On the top left hand box your options have changed to ‘My Friends’ and ‘Requests’. Click on ‘Requests’.Friends

3. You will see a list of people who have requested your friendship, with options to ‘Accept’ or ‘Reject’.
If you accept their friendship, they will be sent an email notifying them. If you reject their friendship, they will not be notified.

Commenting on other people’s activity

You can comment on your own status, or comment on someone else’s status (or any other kind of activity on yours or someone else’s profile). To leave a comment:

1. Find the comment (or activity) you want to comment on

2. Start typing in the ‘Write a comment’ box underneath the status (or activity). The box will change to show a thumbnail of your avatar on the left, and show a ‘Save comment’ button.

3. Click on the ‘Save comment’ button. Your comment will show with a thumnail of your avatar on the left.

Other people can add comments below your comment.

Send direct messages – Message centre

You can send direct messages (like internal email) to your friends by using the message centre.

Example of a message in the message centre1. Go to your profile

2. Click on ‘Message centre’ in the top right hand options box

3. Click on ‘New message’

4. Type your friend’s username in the ‘To’ box

5. Type a subject in the ‘Subject’ box

6. Type your message in the ‘Message’ box. You can use bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, quote and list by highlighting the text you which to change and then clicking on the formatting you require. You can insert an image by finding and copying the url of the image, inserting it into the message, and then clicking on the ‘image’ button (second from right of the buttons above the message box).

To find the url, right click on the image once it has been uploaded. You should see an option to ‘Copy shortcut’ or ‘copy link location’ depending on your browser.

To insert int your message, select this option, then go to your message and right click, and select ‘paste’.

Deleting messages

Go to ‘Message Box’, which will show you all your messages, who sent them, and the titles. On the far right you will see a ‘Delete’ option. Click this to delete the message.

Announcements

Announcements are for messages to everyone from the site administrators.

Message centre settingsSettings

This allows you to set your preferences for being contacted.

You can choose whether to:

  • allow others to send you messages
  • get emails when you get new messages

by clicking on the tick box to the left. When you have finished click ‘Save Options’.

Change your email and password

Email & password linkThere are two ways to find where you can change your email address and password, both through your profile. You can:

  • find a link through the options box on the top right of your profile
  • find a link next to ‘Edit Profile’ and ‘Change Avatar’ in the profile view

Editing your email and passwordYou can then change either your email, by typing a new email into the box; or a new password, by typing your password into the ‘New password’ box, and again into the ‘Repeat new password’ box.

Once you are happy, click the ‘Save changes’ button.

Any notifications you get from the site will now go to your new email address (including the weekly email newsletter with the top news and events of the week, if you have signed up for it through your account).

Username

Your username cannot be changed once you have set it. It is the only part of your account that is fixed.

If you wish to change your username, you will have to request that we delete your account and create a new account.

See your own activity

Profile options boxTo see a complete list of your activity (comments, status updates, joining groups, adding friends etc) go to the ‘Options’ box at the top right of your profile.

Click on’ …(your username)’s activity’.

Deleting your activity

1. Find your activity you want to delete in your activity stream

3. Click delete

4. You will get a confirmation message saying ‘Are you sure?’ Click OK

5. You should see a red confirmation message in the top box on your profile saying ‘Activity deleted’

View the online groups you have joined

View the list of groups you have joined through your profileYou can see the list of online groups you have joined through your profile.

1. Go to your profile

2. Click ‘….(your username)’s groups’ in the Options box on the top right

You can go to the group by clicking the link next to the group’s name.

You can also see if anyone has invited you to join one of their groups by clicking ‘Invites’ at the bottom of the top left hand box.

Add photos to your photo album

Upload picture linkYou can add photos to your profile, and other people can comment on them.

To add a picture:

1. Go to your profile

2. Click on ‘….(your username)’s photos’ in the Options box on the top right hand side

3. Click on ‘Upload picture’ at the bottom of the top left hand box

4. Where it says ‘Upload new picture’ click on the ‘Choose File’ button

5. Navigate to where you have stored the picture you want to upload on your computer

6. Click ‘Upload picture’Edit your picture details

Edit picture details

You can change:

1. Your picture’s title

2. Details about your picture

3. Whether or not you want to allow comments on your picture (if you click disable and there are already comments on your picture, these will be deleted)

Delete your picture

To delete your picture:

1. Go to your profile and click on ‘….(your username)’s photos’ in the Options box on the top right hand side

2. Click on ‘My photos’ at the bottom of the top left hand box

3. Click on the picture you want to deleteDelete picture

4. Click ‘Delete’ at the bottom of the top left hand box

5. You will see a red ‘Picture deleted’ message in the top left hand box

Comment on someone else’s picture

When someone uploads a picture  to their profile on easthampshire.org it will become part of their activity stream, which means you can comment on it (unless they choose to disable comments on the picture).

Comment on a pictureTo comment:

1. Go to your profile and click ‘….(yourusername)’s friends

2. Click on the name of your friend

3. Find the  activity you want to comment on

4.Click on the name of the picture in the activity stream to see the picture

5. Click the back button to go back to the activity stream

6. Start typing in the ‘Write a comment’ box underneath the status (or activity). The box will change to show a thumbnail of your avatar on the left, and show a ‘Save comment’ button.

7. Click on the ‘Save comment’ button. Your comment will show with a thumnail of your avatar on the left.

Other people can add comments below your comment.

Log out button

Log out

You can log out at any time by clicking on the ‘Logout’ button at the top right hand side.
